Rhön Parkhotel: example of regulation and predictive maintenance

Spa Hotel with cogenerator.

The Client

Rhön Parkhotel is a family Hotel and wellness centre located in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the heart of Germany. The structure offers a wide range of services including swimming pool, sauna, wellness and fitness area along with restaurants and bars. Being so energy intensive requires great attention to the way energy is used and managed across sites and activities.

Problem & Solution

Power peaks above a certain threshold are billed separately by the electricity distributor and are therefore very expensive. A peak shaving strategy has been implemented by cascading off non-essential loads.

  • Rationalisation of electricity consumption with the implementation of peak shaving by cascading off non-essential loads. In detail, the most costly power peaks for the existing energy contract were reduced, as well as the switching off of unused assets, e.g. the pizza oven that was already on at 8 a.m.
  • Thermal consumption was reduced and rationalised by cascading the LPG boiler after cogenerators and biomass. The heating of the areas was also optimised, managed in real time according to the influx of customers.
