Arco: example of predictive maintenance

Painting with gas cogenerator and photovoltaic system.

The Client

Arco is a company that specialises in the treatment of metal surfaces with the most advanced technologies. It offers high performance thanks to automated systems that allow the treatment of any type of artefact. The company benefits from a UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system and is also committed to ensuring high environmental sustainability criteria. Arco’s coating lines undergo frequent internal inspections to ensure maximum efficiency and low environmental impact.

Problem & Solution

The plant had a high demand for heat consumption and unsatisfactory CHP profitability even after the integration of a photovoltaic system.

e·boost was tasked with deciding the optimal operating point of the CHP and boilers to reduce consumption and improve productivity. The following strategies were implemented:

  • During the day, the CHP is adjusted in real time to track electricity and heat consumption using real-time consumption data, energy market prices and weather forecasts.
  • Unnecessary energy inputs to the grid have been brought to zero.
  • The CHP maintenance programme has been optimised by postponing maintenance during non-operational periods.
  • The efficiency of recuperators has been improved by detecting cleaning and wear at an early stage.
  • A better heat flow layout was implemented.
