I’m part of the Energy Systems Team at Veil Energy, where I focus on delivering strategic insight and technical expertise to support our clients in reducing their energy consumption and improving overall efficiency. My work spans several core areas, including energy audits across industrial sites, the development of efficiency reports based on real-time and historical data from our E-BOOST platform, and technical consulting tailored to the needs of energy-intensive businesses.

Additionally, I play a key role in supporting companies applying for incentives under the “Industry 5.0” program, ensuring that their efficiency measures meet the required standards for eligibility. Part of my responsibility also includes verifying and validating energy data, which is essential for maintaining the accuracy and credibility of performance evaluations and compliance reporting.

What are the key components and insights that you consider in the Energy Efficiency Report provided to clients?

The Energy Efficiency Report is designed to be a practical, decision-making tool for companies seeking to understand and improve their energy use across operations. It begins with a clear identification of the main energy-consuming systems within the site perimeter, followed by a detailed analysis of how energy flows through the facility. This includes examining how machines behave during different operating phases and identifying when, where, and why inefficiencies occur.

A key part of our work involves calculating energy performance — not only for the site as a whole, but also for specific systems, such as photovoltaic (PV) arrays, combined heat and power (CHP) plants, or other major installations. These performance metrics help us benchmark assets, assess return on investment, and flag underperforming components.

Thanks to the high-resolution data gathered by E-BOOST, we’re also able to uncover inefficiencies that would otherwise go unnoticed, such as unproductive energy use during standby periods or improper equipment scheduling. We then provide concrete, actionable recommendations that can be implemented immediately, from operational tweaks to more strategic decisions like replacing obsolete technologies or adopting energy storage systems.

Beyond diagnosis, the report serves as a roadmap for investment. We offer guidance on where and how to act, whether that’s optimizing a specific process, adjusting plant maintenance routines. In short, it’s about translating complex data into informed actions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support long-term sustainability objectives.

How does the EMS (E-BOOST) directly contribute to the data collection, analysis, and recommendations presented in the Energy Efficiency Report?

E-BOOST plays a central role in powering the insights we deliver through the Energy Efficiency Report. It serves as the core platform for accessing, structuring, and visualizing all the data collected by the client’s energy metering infrastructure. Thanks to its architecture, it transforms raw consumption data into actionable information, reducing burdensome manual analysis.

E-BOOST provides a complete historical visualization of energy consumption, which is essential for understanding long-term patterns and operational baselines. It also allows us to review other critical measured variables, such as temperature, pressure, or flow rates, depending on the configuration. These multi-variable views support more comprehensive assessments, particularly for systems influenced by environmental or process conditions.

The platform also performs a first level of data reprocessing, generating useful analytics such as utility rankings by consumption, average energy use over time (hourly, daily, monthly), and correlation analyses between different measured variables. This level of granularity is especially useful in identifying patterns that might indicate inefficiencies, like unexpected spikes in demand, excessive baseload consumption, or mismatches between energy use and production output.

E-BOOST also highlights active alarms and anomalies in real time, providing an immediate signal when energy consumption deviates from expected behaviour. One helpful metric is the analysis of standby or idle power consumption as a percentage of total energy use, broken down by hour. If correctly interpreted, this helps us to identify assets that are drawing significant power without contributing to productive activity, which is one of the most common and costly forms of energy waste.

What are some of the most common or impactful recommendations that emerge from the Energy Efficiency Reports, and how do these recommendations leverage E-BOOST's capabilities?

Many of the most valuable recommendations stem from inefficiencies that are not visible through traditional monitoring systems or utility bills. E-BOOST allows us to detect, quantify, and contextualize these inefficiencies with a level of granularity that supports targeted interventions.

A frequent finding is the high standby consumption of energy-intensive equipment, such as compressors and process machinery. Through E-BOOST’s continuous data tracking and idle consumption metrics, we can determine when these assets are drawing power outside of productive cycles — often during breaks, shift transitions, or even overnight. Once identified, we provide tailored suggestions to minimize idle loads, such as automation logic for shutdown sequences or adjustments to equipment scheduling.

Another common issue we uncover is electricity usage outside of scheduled production hours, particularly during nights or weekends. E-BOOST makes it easy to visualize these off-cycle consumption patterns through historical and real-time data views. It is also possible to detect these inefficiencies in real time using customizable alarms. These alerts can be configured based on scheduled operating hours, specific consumption thresholds, or even more complex logic. This ensures that any unexpected equipment activity, such as energy usage during nights or weekends, is flagged immediately.

This insight allows us to recommend time-based control strategies or to flag areas where behavioral changes — such as staff awareness or SOP updates — could significantly reduce waste.

In some facilities, we also identify a low power factor, which can lead to energy losses and additional charges on utility bills. By integrating power quality measurements, E-BOOST helps pinpoint where reactive power is excessive and where compensatory measures, such as capacitor banks or equipment upgrades, would be beneficial.

What are the biggest challenges Veil Energy faces in helping industrial clients achieve significant and sustainable energy efficiency improvements, and how do the reports and E-BOOST help overcome these?

One of the main challenges we see is that many industrial clients lack clear visibility into how, when, and where energy is being consumed, or whether that use is truly efficient. In complex plants with diverse systems, this limited insight often leads to missed opportunities for improvement.

E-BOOST addresses this in two key ways. First, it allows us to collect and analyze energy data consistently, providing a technical foundation for identifying inefficiencies. Second, it gives clients real-time access to energy performance data, enabling them to see the impact of individual machines, processes, or changes. Through detailed load profiles — both instantaneous and cumulative — clients can detect inefficiencies, spot performance drops, and compare actual vs. historical trends.

The Energy Efficiency Report builds on this by organizing the data and translating it into clear, actionable guidance. It supports clients in identifying their highest-consuming assets, understanding where energy is being lost, and prioritizing targeted savings measures. This includes detecting performance degradation in both consumption and production systems, such as PV or CHP plants.

Could you share a specific success story where the Energy Efficiency Report, powered by E-BOOST, led to a substantial and measurable impact on a client's energy consumption or sustainability goals?

For any energy reduction initiative to be a success story, two crucial elements are essential. First and foremost, the company must be genuinely committed to reducing its energy consumption by actively following our guidance and suggestions. This collaborative approach is fundamental. Secondly, it’s vital to know how to account for savings. Unless consumption is entirely independent of other variables, this often requires comparing the reduction in consumption against a production parameter provided by the company itself.

When the energy analysis is conducted properly, accurately identifying areas for performance improvement, and there’s strong collaboration to meet the set targets, the results can be remarkable.

We’ve seen this play out successfully in a metal component manufacturing facility. Here, by focusing on reducing idle power consumption and implementing various suggestions, we achieved an overall saving of 6% based on the system’s total operating hours.

Another successful case involved a company that produces building panels. In this instance, we managed to eliminate a portion of their gas consumption completely. This “unnecessary” fuel consumption would have gone undetected without meticulous measurement and analysis of their energy flows. Thanks to this intervention the normalized consumption reduction was approximately 8%.

In what ways does the Energy Efficiency Report serve as a tool for continuous improvement, both for the client's operations and for Veil energy's service offerings?

The Energy Efficiency Report is designed not as a one-off analysis, but as a tool that supports ongoing performance optimization. For our clients, it enables continuous improvement; by focusing attention where the impact is greatest, it allows teams to prioritize their efforts and maximize efficiency gains.

Detecting anomalous consumption patterns, for example, can be extremely valuable in dynamic environments where processes or equipment loads change over time. By comparing expected output with real-world data, we can identify underperformance and recommend corrective actions.

From Veil Energy’s perspective instead, the report helps us refine our analysis methodology, validate field assumptions, and improve the precision of our recommendations over time. It strengthens the feedback loop between monitoring, analysis, and action — ensuring that both our clients and our service evolve with the data.
